About us

Pattern Fantastique was established in Melbourne, Australia in 2015 by esteemed industry pattern maker and woven/knit designer Nita-Jane McMahon whose past clients include design-driven Melbourne-based labels, TLWood, Alpha 60, Willow, Obus, Nicholas and Vixen. In response to an alarming and exponential increase in fast fashion and a lack of accessibility to timeless, well-cut clothing Nita-Jane’s dream was to bring a standard of drafting to sewing at home that was expected from high-end brands.

Initially the brand created a select line of chic and modern sew-at-home patterns for the home sewist who sought more cut and design in their clothes as well as a focus on sustainable methods of production. The patterns help people create and adapt distinct garments that are both beautiful and durable and the range has been slowly developed and refined over the last four years resulting in a highly resolved collection of pattern styles. They can be purchased in either the traditional hard copy format; as digital PDF downloads that can be printed from a home printer; or from one of our many stockists worldwide.

In 2018 the brand relocated with Nita-Jane’s family to Vietnam due to her partner’s work for a non-profit in healthcare. Taking into account the personal insights gained from exposure to the local textiles industry, Pattern Fantastique has shifted it’s focus to the fashion industry in the South East Asia region and wants to help it become an agent for change for women’s health and prosperity. In late 2019 the brand expanded the range to include a ready-to-wear line of garments made in Saigon alongside local makers with an ethical and sustainable approach to production.
